Thirukural- Capter 11- Having gratitude

செய்யாமல் செய்த உதவிக்கு வையகமும்
வானகமும் ஆற்றல் அரிது.

When a person helps us, while we have never helped him before
Such help cannot be repaid by giving the earth and the sky

காலத்தி னாற்செய்த நன்றி சிறிதெனினும்
ஞாலத்தின் மாணப் பெரிது.

A timely help is larger than the universe
even if it is small

பயன்தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன்தூக்கின்
நன்மை கடலின் பெரிது.

When we validate a help
that has been done without
expecting anything in return
The goodness of it is bigger than the sea

தினைத்துணை நன்றி செயினும் பனைத்துணையாக்
கொள்வர் பயன்தெரி வார்.

Even a small help
will be considered as a big help
by those who know its value

உதவி வரைத்தன்று உதவி உதவி
செயப்பட்டார் சால்பின் வரைத்து.

A help done is not evaluated by its size
But by the greatness of who received it

மறவற்க மாசற்றார் கேண்மை துறவற்க
துன்பத்துள் துப்பாயார் நட்பு.

Never forget the pure-hearted's relationship
Never renounce the friendship of those who helped during difficult times

எழுமை எழுபிறப்பும் உள்ளுவர் தங்கண்
விழுமந் துடைத்தவர் நட்பு.

For births to come
They will think with gratitude
of the help that wiped of their suffering

நன்றி மறப்பது நன்றன்று நன்றல்லது
அன்றே மறப்பது நன்று.

It is not wise to forgo of gratitude
That which is not good
Has to be forgotten the very day

கொன்றன்ன இன்னா செயினும் அவர்செய்த
ஒன்றுநன்று உள்ளக் கெடும்.

When someone does harm to us like killing us
Thinking of any help they did in the past
We can forgo of their current offence

எந்நன்றி கொன்றார்க்கும் உய்வுண்டாம் உய்வில்லை
செய்ந்நன்றி கொன்ற மகற்கு.

All type of sins can be washed off
But acting without gratitude has no remedy
