Thirukural- Chapter 8- Love

அன்பிற்கும் உண்டோ அடைக்குந்தாழ் ஆர்வலர்
புன்கணீர் பூசல் தரும்.

Love cannot be locked nor hidden
It will show as tears

அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் அன்புடையார்
என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு.

The loveless belong to themselves
The loving, belong to others, always

அன்போடு இயைந்த வழக்கென்ப ஆருயிர்க்கு
என்போடு இயைந்த தொடர்பு.

What the soul has for the body
is a story of love

அன்பு ஈனும் ஆர்வம் உடைமை அதுஈனும்
நண்புஎன்னும் நாடாச் சிறப்பு.

Love creates interest
Interest brings in friendship
which is very precious

அன்புற்று அமர்ந்த வழக்கென்ப வையகத்து
இன்புற்றார் எய்தும் சிறப்பு.

The greatness of the most pleasurable people
has come to them by the path of love they walked

அறத்திற்கே அன்புசார் பென்ப அறியார்
மறத்திற்கும் அஃதே துணை. 

The ignorant say, love supports only virtue
but it also supports valour

என்பி லதனை வெயில்போலக் காயுமே
அன்பி லதனை அறம்.

Like the sun torturing the boneless worm
So does virtue torture the loveless people

அன்பகத் தில்லா உயிர்வாழ்க்கை வன்பாற்கண்
வற்றல் மரந்தளிர்த் தற்று.

Life without love
is like
a plant that grows in a desert

புறத்துறுப் பெல்லாம் எவன்செய்யும் யாக்கை
அகத்துறுப்பு அன்பி லவர்க்கு.

when there is no love
in the heart
The external five senses and body
can do no good

அன்பின் வழியது உயிர்நிலை அஃதிலார்க்கு
என்புதோல் போர்த்த உடம்பு.

Love is the path for life in the body
No love means, the body is just skin and bone
