is nothing but the glory of the ones who give in charity
to the poor
ஒன்றா உலகத் துயர்ந்த புகழல்லாற்
பொன்றாது நிற்பதொன் றில்.

There is nothing that can stand the test of time
other than true glory
நிலவரை நீள்புகழ் ஆற்றின் புலவரைப்
போற்றாது புத்தே ளுலகு.

One who did things for glory
even the heavens would hold them dear
நத்தம்போல் கேடும் உளதாகுஞ் சாக்காடும்
வித்தகர்க் கல்லால் அரிது.

Only the truly intelligent can make the suffering of this body
into glory of the spiritual soul
தோன்றின் புகழோடு தோன்றுக அஃதிலார்
தோன்றலின் தோன்றாமை நன்று.

While you present yourself somewhere
present yourself with glory if you cannot do that, it is better not to present yourself there.
புகழ்பட வாழாதார் தந்நோவார் தம்மை
இகழ்வாரை நோவ தெவன்.

One who truly lives, is the one who falsifies all criticism
One who destroys his own glory, lives not truly
